Aka velocity, or city bike in English. This is where you go in Angers to pick up your free bike! Ok, taxes pay for it but it feels free for a girl just arriving to this lovely city! There is basically always a bike lane, often shared with the bus lane on the bigger streets, wherever you go in Angers. This week I picked my bike up now that I have a French bank account at last. I had planned on going for the green, fav, or yellow, to stand out, but as they weren't options I went for the least popular color for easy spotting- and something to show my Cincinnati Bengals/LHS Tigers pride. The shop by campus was practically empty of bikes by closing time (just after noon!) so the picture looks much less impressive than the other times I've passed by earlier in the day.
My cute city bike is the second from the front : ) The system is that you can renew the lease after 4 months, and you're allowed 3 renewals, all gratuit.
One nice long stretch of road on my commute goes through the park of the Lac du Maine, Maine lake. The bus lanes are always red, so here there is a designated lane for le vélo. You can see the cathedral on the other side of the river.
*Today's post is in honor of my first bike commute to my class this morning... Where I had the pleasure of learning what the perfect language school would be for the second year psychology students. This involved being able to smoke in class for a surprising number of students (surprising for this young American at least) and arriving by pony or unicorn for a couple of groups. Basketball and donuts every morning were proposed by the Baller School of Language. Students were shocked to hear that eating breakfast during a lecture at an American college would be no big deal at all. 'twas an interesting class and a nice short day of work!
